Window Tint FAQ'S
1.) What actually is Window Tint?
- Window tint is a multi-layered, polyester-based material infused with different inks, chemicals, and nanometer sized particles that vary depending on the type of window film. The different physical properties of each film are what aid in reducing or eliminating the suns visible light transmission (VLT), harmful UV radiation waves, and help mitigated Infrared (heat) penetration through glass.

2.) What are the different types of Window Tint?
- When it comes to automotive film every manufacturer for the most part has the same 3-4 types of film. Usually consisting of a dyed, carbon or Metalized, and then Ceramic film. We do not offer a metalized film as they are known to cause interference with radio and cell phone signals in your vehicle. Instead, we offer a nano-carbon based film for our mid-grade line offering the same performance of metalized film, without any signal interference. For our base line film, we offer a Deep-Dyed color stable film for a cost friendly package. And for our premium package we offer a nano-ceramic window film delivering complete UV protection, extremely high infrared heat rejection, and superb optical clarity. Between these three lines of automotive films, you should be able to find the package to fit your needs and budget.

- When it comes to Architectural film there are over a dozen different options to choose from. And unlike automotive, not every type of Residential film can be applied to every type of window. Many considerations as to the type of glass in your windows, number of panes, size of windows, and directional location (N, S, E, W), all have to be factored in to ensure proper and safe film-to-glass applications. Schedule an on-site consultation to get a more precise estimate of what is available for you and your specific situation.

3.) How long does it take to install?
- The installation time is different for every vehicle based on complexity, number of windows needed to be done, overall size of vehicle, and whether or not any old window film needs to be removed beforehand.

- Most fairly clean sedans and pick-up trucks not requiring tint removal can be done within 3-4 hours. With larger SUV's, Trucks, or complex vehicles taking around 4 hours to complete a quality installation. HOWEVER, older vehicles or trucks used off-road with excessive dirt built up in window seals, lifted vehicles, or any vehicles requiring tint removal... will all require additional time.

- Depending on age and quality of old window film, along with size of vehicle, window tint removal can easily take just as long to remove as it can to tint in some situations. Knowing the status of your vehicle and everything that needs to be done up front will allow me to give you a more accurate estimate for the amount of time needed to finish your vehicle for you. Removal time alone can range from 30 minutes to half a day in some situations, depending on condition of old film.

4.) How long does it take to "cure"?
- After your window film installation is complete, it is required that you leave your windows rolled-up and untouched for 2-3 days to allow the adhesive to fully adhere to the glass surface. This helps to prevent any premature peeling from the window tint being rubbed against the window seals before properly dried. As well to ensure complete adhesive attachment to glass to prevent film failure years later. Florida's year-round temperatures are for the most part "tint friendly", and therefore 2-3 day waiting period will be more than enough for most of the year. However, on the rare occasion where outside temperatures are at, or hovering around freezing for extended periods of time, you will find it best to leave windows rolled up for closer to 4-5 days.

5.) Is there a warranty?
- For Automotive: All of our Geoshield automotive films come with a limited lifetime warranty against any manufacturer defects. Manufacturer defects include discoloration, fading, bubbling, or prematurely pealing. It does not cover against premature rolling down of windows before cured, seat belt nicks, dog scratches, scratches caused by normal use, cigarette burns, or any other human error on part of the customer.

6.) I just had my windows tinted, why do they look hazy?
- After your window tint is first installed, whether automotive or residential, there is always going to be a small amount of remaining moisture between the film and glass. Even after squeegeeing out the excess. This remaining moisture might cause a slight hazy, streaky, or blotchy appearance. It can take up to a full week for automotive, and 3 weeks for residential for the remaining moisture to fully evaporate between the surface of the film and glass. Once completely evaporated, your windows should have superb clarity.

7.) Can you tint over Factory Tint?
- YES! True factory tint is just a dye that is sprayed into the actual glass of the vehicle and is not an external film. Therefore, it is completely possible to add aftermarket tint to your factory tint. In fact, its highly preferred as factory tint only manages to block a certain amount of visible light or "VLT". Factory tint doesn't protect against all 99% of the harmful UVA & UVB rays, as well as not providing any amount of heat rejection.

Nonetheless, we understand everybody might not have the time or budget to tint their entire SUV, and some just want to match the front two windows to the back, or even go a shade lighter. I can absolutely do that for you!

8.) Can you tint over aftermarket tint?
- Although highly unrecommended, tinting over aftermarket tint is possible. However, no factory warranty can be provided due to it not being a "proper" installation. Another thing to keep in mind is the overall quality of the install depends on how good and clean the previous install already was. If the previous install has lots of dirt specs, then tinting over the tint already there making it much darker, with only magnify any flaws in the tint job. With all things considered, the price for tinting over tint is the same as if there was no prior tint due to the fact the amount of work and material is the same. Even though no warranty can be provided.

9.) Can tint be applied to any surface?
- Window tint can only be applied to true glass surfaces (tempered, annealed, laminated, etc...). Window tint can't be applied to any lexan, plexiglass, or other polycarbonate, plastic, or non-glass surfaces. Many people ask to get their golf cart windshields tinted, but due to the windshields being a type of plastic, unfortunately plastic surfaces give off something called "Out-Gassing" and cannot be tinted. "Out-Gassing (Off-Gassing)" is the constant, sometimes long-term releasing of chemicals from a plastics' surface throughout its life. In turn, resulting in a rather quick adhesive failure in the window film, sometimes as quick as a few days. For individuals wanting darker golf cart windshields, you can order a tinted windshield for about the price I would charge to tint it myself (if it was possible).

10.) What is the legal Percentage allowed?
- While most of our customers are local, we also get many customers from out of state. Since all state's window tint laws are different, it is the customers responsibility to make sure their specific window film application abides by their particular state's laws. With that being said, there are many individuals that are exempt from the window film laws. Whether they are medically exempt, exempt by their profession such as law enforcement, investigators, process servers, or individuals of government or special status.
